8: How to curb addiction, predicting future trends, and two whiskeys deep

Happy Monday!

Just got back from my cousin’s wedding in VEGAS!! Was a heck of a whirlwind (only 2.5 days including travel time), but we still had a ton of fun. Definitely hope to go back sometime with a more open schedule.

Hope you enjoy this week’s 3 things:

🥗 Looking to curb an addiction? Hop on the bike.

A 2018 study from the University of Copenhagen found that aerobic exercise on a bike led to an increase in the hormone FGF21 three times higher than strength training with weights.

FGF21 is a hormone that helps regulate addictive behavior, which could be a biological explanation as to why cardio exercise can be a powerful ally for treating addiction.

Just in case you want to dig deeper (who doesn’t love all this doctor-talk?), here’s a link to some info on FGF21 and its effect on non-human primates in regards to alcohol consumption.

💸 How to predict future trends

Predicting future trends is a superpower in today’s society. Imagine investing in Tesla or Ethereum 5-10 years ago. Here’s a short essay from George Mack on how to (maybe) help your current situation:

🧙 Two whiskeys deep and a boatload of knowledge-bombs

I recently started following Sahil Bloom (@SahilBloom) on Twitter, and I’m not mad about it in the slightest. Every once in a while, he grabs a few drinks of whiskey and shares threads worth their weight in gold. Check out his latest from last night here.

Best,

Jason
